The Science Behind Steam Cleaning and Crushed Carpet Fibers
Steam cleaning doesn't actually "lift" carpet fibers—it uses heat and moisture to relax compressed fibers, allowing them to spring back toward their original shape as they dry. The hot water extraction process temporarily softens synthetic polymers in the carpet, making matted areas appear fuller and more upright. While effective for temporary fiber revival, it won't fix permanent crushing damage from heavy furniture or worn backing.
